Director Global Employee Relations

People Operations is made up out of:

  • People Services Hub - as the first line of contact for employees and line managers, the Hub will manage employee service requests, support administrative and transactional activity and support Business Partners and CoE initiatives
  • People Consultants within People Advisory supports any complex local employee relations issues or provide specialised local knowledge input as required. People Advisory will also consist of specialised teams that will own Functional HR Systems management, oversight of Employee Relations cases and strategic Reporting & Analytics activity

The Role

Employee Relations for Adevinta is all about our efforts to create and maintain a positive relationship with our employees, covering the contractual and practical, as well as the physical and emotional dimensions of the employee-employer relationship. Within Adevinta, Employee Relations is about the individual, the Adevintans, but also about the collective, our Social Partners such as our Works Councils and Unions. We view employees and social partners as team members and contributors within Adevinta, and we always seek feedback, to value the input, and to consider the employee experience when making decisions that affect the entire organization.

You will be accountable for setting the standard for global employee relations, both towards Adevintans and our social partners. You will also be responsible for the development of the global employee relations strategy and governance model, the development and maintenance of People policies and the oversight of consultation efforts related to the implementation of global initiatives with key partners across the Adevinta footprint and in line with (local) laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the business and functional line managers to develop employee relations
  • Strategy, policy and practice which deliver and support the business and people strategic objectives
  • Embed the ER strategy, ensuring all people strategies, policies and procedures are country compliant; consistently deployed; and aligned with the Adevinta culture and values.
  • Establish a forward-thinking employee relations culture with leadership, building trust, respect, fairness, between the organisation and colleagues
  • Lead on global people policy and act as the conscience of the organisation in policy design, development and implementation
  • Lead a People Policy Specialist (hard line) and a global group of skilled professionals (People Consultants, People Business Partners, CoE members, etc.) in the area of employee relations (dotted line)
  • Contribute to and support the diversity and inclusion agenda - recognising and respecting individual differences across the business
  • Own unique, complex and/or highly confidential Employee Relations cases, including deep in-country investigations
  • Provide leadership, expertise and advice on sensitive and sophisticated people-related matters
  • Co-ordinate and work with legal advisers to ensure that ER professionals have capability and are sufficiently developed to meet ER strategy
  • Evaluate the impact of ER & policy on the business and colleagues by providing measurable, useful data against the progress of ER strategy to inform and drive strategic change
  • Oversee key negotiations with trade unions, works councils and employee forums on a range of business issues
  • Assess global people risk and design global interventions to manage/mitigate the risk
  • Oversee the global employment agreement and settlement agreements templates

We fundamentally need to create an ER vision for our employees and employee representative groups that engenders trust and a relationship built on transparency and pragmatism.

  • Has experience of working in matrix organisations and/or with recently centralised functions

  • You are both diplomatic and collaborative. A highly effective relationship builder, with proven success in managing the interests and demands of multiple partners with professional integrity.
  • Is commercial-minded with solid understanding of business drivers and industry trends.
  • Has exceptional written and spoken English. Knowledge of Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian or other European languages is a plus.


This role is global but will ideally be located in Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona or Berlin and relocation is on offer to the locations.
